Thanks to Alaska Airlines, sixteen Rosemary Anderson Prep students visited five HBCUs in the Carolinas on a college tour that helped them explore higher education options, experience campus life, and envision their future in college.

For three decades, Joe has been a driving force behind POIC's mission to empower underserved communities in Portland, Oregon, and taking on the legacy of his grandmother, Rosemary Anderson, leaving a lasting impact on thousands of lives.
Rosemary Anderson Prep is vital to the Portland Public Schools initiative to provide Multiple Pathways to Graduation. As one of the central service areas of POIC, alternative education is integral to improving student outcomes.
At POIC, we don’t just commemorate Black history—we actively shape it. For over 50 years, we have been a community-centered organization, working directly with our neighbors to break down barriers, provide resources, and create lasting change. This isn’t just a job for us; it’s a responsibility and a calling.
Innovative Learning at Rosemary Anderson Prep: Teachers Ryan Figura and Kay Shoemaker inspire students through creative, hands-on learning—from exploring To Kill a Mockingbird with real-world connections to building rockets that blend science, culture, and teamwork.
POIC Community Safety program secures million+ dollar funding and forms partnerships with local organizations to continue to reduce violence in downtown Portland, signaling a significant shift towards a safer and more vibrant city center.
