Dubai’s youngest kidney transplant recipient

A three-year-old boy Saeed Khamis Al Shamsi has become the smallest and one of the youngest recipients of a kidney transplant in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Al Jalila Children’s Hospital saved life of Saeed Khamis Al Shamsi on his third birthday.

The life of the Emirati child battling kidney failure was saved by a medical team at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital on his third birthday on December 22, 2023, Dubai Health exclusively told Gulf News.

Kylian Mbappe wins award as France's player of the year

France football team Caption Kylian Mbappe has been named as France's player of the year. He has won the award in a ceremony held in Paris, France on Monday dated 13-05-2024.

This is even as he comes to the end of his seven-season stay with Paris Saint-Germain. In a statement on the Football club's site, Mbappe, is said to have won as Ligue 1 Player of the Season at the UNFP (French players union) trophies gala.

The club took home a total of 15 awards, it said. "Paris Saint-Germain also pulled off another Player of the Season double, with Kylian Mbappe winning the award on the men's side," the club said.

"Having been named as the Ligue 1 Player of the Season in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023, the 25-year-old striker wins the award for a fifth time," it said.

According to the statement by the Club, h Mbappe becomes the first player to pick up honor on five separate occasions. "In a row after a season, he has scored 44 goals in all competitions for PSG," it said.

Saudi Arabia prepares 4,000km of roads for Hajj pilgrimage

The General Authority for Roads in Saudi Arabia has announced the completion of extensive preparations on Mecca roads ahead of the upcoming Hajj season, 1445 AH.

The roadworks involved surveying and upgrading 4,000 km of roadways to ensure a seamless and comfortable experience for pilgrims.

Improvements included scraping and re-asphalting 158 km of roads, addressing cracks and potholes at 403 sites, trimming road shoulders across 2,361 km, removing sand dunes covering 1,240 cubic meters, and cleaning valley streams at 421 locations.

3 feet tall Dubai Internet sensation Abdu Rozik to marry Emirati in July

Dubai-based Tajik internet sensation Abdu Rozik, who stands just over three feet tall, is gearing up for a new chapter — marrying an Emirati girl from Sharjah.

"I cannot imagine anything more precious than this love. I cannot wait to start my new journey in life," gushed Rozik, as he spoke to Khaleej Times.

The wedding, set for July 7 at an undisclosed UAE location, was confirmed by the International Fighting Championship Management (IFCM), Rozik's management company. "Abdu Rozik is thrilled about it. We're all delighted for him and wish the couple the best," said an IFCM spokesperson. Rozik, 20, will marry, Amira.

Omani - UAE Construction of railway network project begin

The Etihad Rail, Oman Rail and Mubadala Investment Company have entered into an agreement to commence the construction of the Omani-Emirati railway network project. The agreement was signed during the state visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman, to the UAE.

The joint railway network, which would require a total investment of US$3 billion, will amplify the UAE and Oman as gateways to regional markets. The network will also pave the way for job creation in various sectors in both countries.

The network will facilitate cross-border trade, connecting commercial ports to railways within the two countries. A single freight train journey will be able to transport more than 15,000 tonnes of cargo - or around 270 standard containers.

Hafeet Rail will contribute to the development of various sectors in both countries, such as mining, iron and steel, agriculture and food, retail, e-commerce, and the petrochemical sector.

The passenger rail services will connect population centres, fostering social and familial cohesion, while supporting the tourism sector. The passenger train can reach speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour, covering the distance between Sohar and Abu Dhabi in 100 minutes, and Sohar and Al Ain in 47 minutes. One train can accommodate up to 400 passengers.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the release of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Official Anthem, Out of this World, by Grammy award winning artist Sean Paul and Soca superstar Kes.

With just 30-days-to-go until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 begins, the release of the anthem sets the tone for what will be the biggest cricket carnival spectacle ever, with 20 international teams playing 55 matches across the West Indies and USA from 1st June 2024 till 29th June 2024.

Sri Lanka squad for T20 World Cup 2024 announced

The Sri Lankan Cricket Selection Committee has selected the following 15-member Sri Lanka squad to take part in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29th.

The squad was approved by the Hon. Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando. The team will depart for the World Cup on May 14, 2024.
