June 20th, 2025 | October 19, 2025 Join us on Friday June 20th at 7pm in celebrating the world premiere of Marcus Leslie Singleton: New Steps, the first solo museum exhibition dedicated to Singleton's nuanced, deeply intimate paintings of Black American communities. In early 2024, Marcus Leslie Singleton participated in a month-long artist residency at La Fourchette de Rōze, a boutique hotel in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. For Singleton, who paints people engaged in everyday activities around his neighborhoods, this new locale offered subject matter simultaneously novel and familiar. “As an American there is a magnetic tussle between strangeness and familiarity,” Singleton said. “And this was a similar feeling I had in Côte d’Ivoire.” A constant observer, Singleton writes, sketches, photographs, and records his surroundings, using a notebook, his phone, or a point-and-shoot digital camera. Sometimes he jots down sentences about what he’s seeing, hearing, or even smelling. These notes, in their varying forms, become a kind of catalog of experiences, one that Singleton reviews and selects from to make his paintings. The artist uses the metaphor of a sponge to describe his time at the residency—he soaked up as much as he could, and, returning to his studio, squeezes out those experiences into his work. The influence of his trip to West Africa is evident in the settings of his paintings, with the vibrant textures and patterns of the interiors of Abidjan locals’ homes. But Singleton’s technique has evolved as well—his color choices are now tied to feeling rather than exclusively to visual representation, a freedom unlocked by soaking up the brilliant colors he encountered through Côte d’Ivoire architecture. Primarily a figurative painter, Singleton believes that interpersonal relationships are foundational to societies based anywhere, be it West Africa or North America. Through his work, he expresses ideas about communication and connection. As the title suggests, this exhibition presents the results of the new steps Singleton took following his return to his studio. Completely new work, which will include paintings inspired by Côte d’Ivoire and scenes from New York City, will be displayed alongside other recent paintings. New Steps will also feature two video works. This is Singleton’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States. The presentation of Marcus Leslie Singleton: New Steps at CAC is supported by George and Linda Kurz.

Third Tuesday of each month through October Preservation in the Park is a free event produced by the Cincinnati Preservation Association. Workout on the Green

No contracts, no excuses, just free workout classes every Wednesday in Washington Park! Workout on the Green is completely free and anyone is welcome to attend, no matter your skill set! Please bring your own towel, mat, water, etc.; Washington Park will not provide any equipment. 2025 Workout Schedule September 5 – 6p | Vinyasa Flow with Solhaus A creative, yet powerful yoga flow with smooth transition. Designed for all levels. The class will combine breath and movement in a dynamic sequence of poses. 6 – 7p | Qigong Yoga with the YMCA A mind-body-spirit practice that integrates posture, movement, breathing techniques, self-massage, sound, and focused intent to improve overall well-being. Preservation in the Park

Third Tuesday of each month through October Preservation in the Park is a free event produced by the Cincinnati Preservation Association. On the 3rd Tuesday of each month (May – October), grab a drink from the Sherwin-Williams Porch bar, sit back, and let them tell you a story about the historic sites and structures of Cincinnati!

In 2025 we will explore stories and histories associated with sports and recreational sites and activities in Greater Cincinnati. While we all love the big sports like baseball and football, we will delve into other arenas such as tennis, roller skating, horse racing, and others.

Salsa on the Square

Every Thursday | 7-10PM

Get ready to step and spin your way through the night at Salsa on the Square brought to you by P&G! This event features live local and regional Latin bands specializing in Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, and Latin Jazz music. In addition to the live music, local dance instructors host large dance classes teaching basic and intermediate Latin dancing. Come early for Happy Hour and get $1 off all alcoholic beverages! All Fountain Square performances are FREE and open to the public. No tickets required.

Final Friday at Pendleton Art Center

May 30th, 2025 | 5PM-9PM With over 200 artists, PAC is the world’s largest collection of artists under one roof. Open to the public during Final Friday, check out pendletonartcenter.com/events for dates and times. The Pendleton Art Center is open to the public every month on the last Friday (Final Friday) from 5-9 pm. Individual artists are also available by appointment at their discretion. The building has an attendant, elevator operator from 9:00 am til 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Some artists and shops have business hours: Check the individual shops for their hours and availability.

Final Friday in Over-the-Rhine

Join us for Final Friday in Over the Rhine, anchored by Pendleton Art Center’s Final Friday event, on Friday April 25th from 5-9pm! Support local artists, shop local businesses, and explore OTR.

Building on the tradition started by the Pendleton Art Center 34 years ago, Final Friday will be expanding across Over the Rhine-- stretching from Pendleton Street, to Main Street, all the way over to Vine Street with activations happening at Ziegler Park and Imagination Alley.

Many of OTR’s favorite retailers will be joining the Final Friday tradition, hosting artists featuring everything from handmade jewelry, to photography, to live music and everything in between.
