The Fair Housing Center of West Michigan is the front door to housing choice, ensuring everyone has equal opportunity to choose housing that's right for them.

We work to prevent housing discrimination, remove barriers that allow it to persist, and restore housing choice when discrimination happens.

What is fair housing?

Fair housing is the right to choose housing free from unlawful discrimination.

Federal and/or state fair housing laws protect people from discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex,  sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, familial status, disability, marital status, age and source of income (source of income in rental housing only).

Discrimination is illegal in housing transactions such as rentals, sales, lending, and insurance.
