Stellar concert pianist Gabriela Martinez plays Grieg’s famous piano concerto on a program that also celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month through music of Spain, Mexico, and South America. GSO percussionist Wiley Sykes features on a virtuosic solo for castanets.
Iconic multi-genre musician Chris Thile brings his new concerto, ATTENTION! , highlighting his virtuosity on the mandolin and his ability to blend musical influences. He’ll also play a double concerto by Bach with GSO concertmaster, Marjorie Bagley.
Fresh off a Kennedy Center debut, international first-prize winner Hina Khuong-Huu performs Bruch’s lush and lyrical Violin Concerto No. 1. Music of Beethoven begins the show, plus a surprise Maestro’s Choice pick!
Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, a cornerstone of the cello repertoire, stars cellist Bryan Cheng and anchors a program featuring music by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho and a surpise Maestro’s Choice pick.
Classical guitar meets blues guitar in the new Confluence Double Concerto by acclaimed American composer Chris Brubeck featuring D. J. Sparr and Thomas Flippin. Music by composer Jessie Montgomery opens the concert.
Soprano Maria Valdes returns to the Tanger Center stage to feature in an all-Mozart evening alongside other soloists and the GSO Master Chorale in Mozart’s towering Requiem.
