A Note From Andrea Dickel,
Holy Redeemer School Principal
As we wrap up another school year, I cannot help but think back over the blessings of the past year. We started the school year fully staffed with a handful of new teachers who were excited to jump in and get started. We also saw an enrollment jump of about 15 students in K-8, putting us back over the 200 mark for the first time in many years, along with our 53 PK students! It is not secret that the School Choice Voucher has made private school affordable for many more families but families still have a number of schools to choose from in the Evansville area and still, they are choosing Holy Redeemer. This speaks volumes about the wonderful education that is taking place and about the supportive community we have surrounding us.
As we distance ourselves farther from COVID, I feel school returning more and more to normal in many ways and that is a blessing. Activities are happening that draw people together. Students are developing friendships and playing together at school and away from school. Families are feeling more comfortable and connected and it shows.
Academically, our students have grown by leaps and bounds this year and our teachers continue to find new and exciting ways to reach our students. Our middle school Academic Superbowl Team took 2nd in the state in the Math competition and third in the state in the Science competition. Athletically, we have seen many successes, including our 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball team taking 2nd in their tournament after a very slow start and our 4th-8th grade track team winning overall on the west side.
Our Rocket Race (formerly Race for Education) was also hugely successful this year thanks to so many generous donors in and around our parish and community. We raised over $35,000 with the plan to put it toward some of the campus improvement projects we hope to bring to fruition over the coming years.
As you can see, the year has been nothing short of impressive. Looking forward to next year, our enrollment will be up another 40 students and we will see our total enrollment reach over 300. We plan to have 2 sections of Kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and fourth grade. This does not come without growing pains but we are all excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and the great reputation Holy Redeemer has in the Evansville community. We want to thank all of you for your continued and generous support and we invite you to come check us out and see all the great things we have to offer!
