What's Happening in Wayne County


Get out your poles and bait as one month from today are three amazing fishing events as part of the DNR Free Fishing Weekend. Wayne County Parks offers the following on June 7:
1. The Fishing Derby takes place from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Waterford Bend Park in Northville.
2. Family Fishing Fun Day at Crosswinds Marsh is now partnering with Scouting America to bring more activities such as workshops about casting and fly fishing. The event takes place from 9:00 AM - Noon.
3. Fishing Fun Day at the Detroit Wildlife Refuge will be held from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, with the fishing portion taking place from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM and kayaking from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
All the above events are free, and pre-registration is not required! Participants should bring their own fishing equipment although limited poles may be available at Crosswinds Marsh and the Wildlife Refuge.

The Wayne County Parks Dog Park is closed for reseeding until June 9, 2025, but registration is now open for the 2025-2026 season. All dogs must be registered by providing a copy of your city/township dog license, rabies and distemper shot records, along with a $20 fee for Wayne County residents and $25 for non-residents.

Our Nankin Mills Naturalists are offering three great hikes during the month of May!
The Arboretum Hike will take place on Friday, May 9 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at Bennett Arboretum in Northville.
The Lola Valley Hike is on Thursday, May 15 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at Lola Valley Park in Redford.
The Fish Ladder Hike, which will meet at the Waterfall Loop Trailhead in Dearborn on the Ford Estate will take place on Thursday, May 29 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM.
All hikes are $5.00 per person and pre-registration is required at www.wayneco.recpro-iframe.com.
