Broward County Governance Overview

The Broward County Commission is comprised of nine members elected by district in partisan elections, ensuring representation for all residents. These members elect the Mayor and Vice Mayor for one-year terms each November. The Mayor serves as the presiding officer and official county representative.

The Commission plays a vital role in governance by appointing key officials, including the County Administrator, Attorney, and Auditor, as well as numerous advisory and regulatory boards. Commission meetings are held every other Tuesday and are broadcast on participating cable channels. This structure ensures transparent and active governance for the county.
